My Favorite looks from Met Gala 2012
Posted on | May 9, 2012 | No Comments
Ok, fair enough, all the fashion blogs are posting pictures of Met Gala. I don’t want to be a part of that, but I love the dresses… It is the only occasion to see haute couture in North America. Event like this, that hosts celebrities, editors,..etc. Blogs try to find trends and trend forcasting via looking at the dresses. Let me save you some time and say, there is no major trend discoveries at event like this. Celebs usually stick to designers that they like, or they get dresses as gifts and wear them. Exceptions are those people who actually pay for their tickets ( thousands of $$) and you don’t see their pictures surging the net. Those are the people you need to figure out the trend from! so unless you are invited or some how have a snapshots of other invitees, there would be no trend -discovery!
Here are my favorite looks

Rooney Mara in custom Givenchy

Jessica Biel in Prada

Heidi Klum Escada Dress

Dakota Fanning in Louis-Vuitton- Note that she is only 18 years old, but always wear the most appropriate dress for her age.

I need good news
Posted on | May 7, 2012 | No Comments
I am tired of all the sad things that are happening in the fashion world. What is happening?
Betsey Johnson declares bankruptcy , sweetspotqc and a few other blogs close down, Fashion Television is no longer on, and so many other news.
Worst of all, Christophone Coppens closes down his company.

Above hats are from Christophone Coppens.
I need some good news, please give me some good news, please…
My designs published in Fame’d magazine
Posted on | May 1, 2012 | No Comments
I am sad to hear that Fame’d magazine in Vancouver is no longer in publication. The editor Marilyn Wilson has contributed greatly to the fashion industry in Vancouver. So many young designers such as myself have benefited from her great guidance and continued support. I always believe that end of a creation, is a beginning of a new one for those who have creative minds. I am sure Marilyn will be on to new exciting projects in near future.
Here are a few pages on my work. A downloadable edition will be soon available on their website.

Some one with colors deep in my heart
Posted on | April 25, 2012 | No Comments
Saw his name and got curious about his work. Well, his name is kind of peculiar. You would think, Manish Arora is a name of an Indian actor. You thank god there is something like google, so you can dig in people’s history.
You google his name and the moment of truth comes out…you have just found another phenomena of fashion in 21st Century. I always wonder, when we all die ( we meaning me and you who are possibly alive now), what are people going to think about our designs?. Are they going to see Mahesh Arora and write about his genius designs? Who are they going to admire, and who are they going to forget? If you are somebody who is reading this post like 100 years from now, look at these images below and see this is what we are proud to offer you as resident of the planet in 21st Century.

Mood board for my new wedding gown client
Posted on | April 18, 2012 | No Comments
She is quite unique in a way she wants to dress for her wedding. Very strong idea of the color and the mood. She doesn’t like white and is attracted to darker shades of blue and purple. She loves unique and has sent me several photos of what she likes. I am sketching the designs and the very first thing that I like to do is to make a mood board. She is interested in dark blue, purple and pale pink for ornaments, also she loves flower design on her dress.

I found out about this designer from coolhuntingwebsite. You should check it out and read the whole article. The designer Designer Gül Agi? addresses controversial social issues with traditional Turkish culture. Her work reminds me of myself , I can see a Turkish girl or a Persian girl in these imagery. What a genius designer! ok, one more person is added to “designer to meet”.

Mary Katrantzou and words with you
Posted on | April 10, 2012 | No Comments
I was reading designer’s profiles at London Fashion Week and I came across Mary Katrantzou. I feel like something exploded in my body when I first saw her runway photos. I googled her and there she was, the queen of prints. Looking through her work, some kind of sharp tenderness in my chest, going from excited to overwhelmed to sad and finally inspired. I was excited because I discovered her, and overwhelmed to see so many new and genius prints. Something I had not seen before: bold colors, unique textile design. In fact every collection has a unique approach to it. I was then sad to see how a young talented designer like her, got recognized through various organization in the UK. She is based in London, London is the center of creative fashion and there are so many opportunities to get recognized as a young designer. There are institutes like GENART that help young designers to participate in London Fashion week. There are many grad shows with big awards targeting new talents. No surprise that fashion grows in London. Young designers have many opportunities to show their work and get recognized by the industry. I was looking at Vancouver and Canada and I feel that there is a huge gap in our system for fashion designers. I am only aware of one opportunity to participate in LG fashion week and that is Mercedes Benz start up competition. I was hoping to participate in that, but after almost 10 phone calls and several emails to the organizers, I got no answer for my questions regarding the participation. This blog is meant to give you inspiration, but you may want to know how difficult the pathway is. After all of this, I want to go back to Mary Katrantzou’s inspiring designs. I am looking at images tonight to get inspired for tomorrow.

She says on her facebook page: “God gives us dreams a size too big so that we can grow into them.”

My name is Hamideh Abol, I am a designer/ textile artist located in Vancouver, BC, Canada. Shefelt.ca is my blog where I write about my life, my inspirations, and my everyday challenges as a designer.
I debuted as designer in 2011 when my collection was jury selected to participate in Montreal Fashion Week. I make unique wearable art mainly out of organic and natural fabric. My pieces are created to transform my ideas and inspirations in paintings and sculptures into unique wearable art. My main focus is Eco-friendly couture.
Term "Felt" in shefelt refers to a non-woven cloth that is produced by matting, condensing and pressing woolen fibres and that is the main medium for my designs.
